1. Uri The Surgical Strike – 1st out of 10 Best Bollywood Movies 2019
Uri: The Surgical Strike is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language military action film. It is directed and written by debutante Aditya Dhar. Produced by Ronnie Screwvala, the film stars Vicky Kaushal,Paresh Rawal, Yami Gautam, Mohit Raina and Kirti Kulhari in lead roles. The plot of film is a dramatised account of the retaliation to the 2016 Uri attack, following Major Vihaan Singh Shergill of the Indian Army, who plays a leading role in the events.
The film was released on 11 January 2019, and grossed ₹342.06 crore (US$53 million) worldwide. It has received generally positive reviews from critics and ranks among the highest-grossing Indian films. The film won a number of awards such as four National Film Awards, which includes Best Director for Dhar and Best Actor for Kaushal.
Uri: The Surgical Strike is clear from the word go as to which political party it caters to, and makes no secret of it. Modi and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval (Rawal) is seen in practically every scene and is part of every meeting that involves discussions on the surgical strikes. The timing of this film couldn’t have been more perfect.
Keeping the affiliations of Uri the film aside (which is a task in itself), it is a decent film for most parts. The first half is far more gripping than the second. Post intermission, the makers themselves seem over-excited, to the point of losing control of the narrative. The line between what’s believable and what’s actually not, becomes blurred. There is actually a scene where Vicky stabs a terrorist one-on-one, while yelling “Indian Army!” At points, guns are thrown aside and we are treated to some good old Bollywood punches and kicks
